I Heart Graffiti has moved!

You may or may not have noticed that I haven't posted a graffiti photo on here in quite some time. Well, that's because I've moved all those pictures to my Instagram profile.

It just became easier to post the pictures directly there. I share those pictures on Twitter and Tumblr with the built-in features so I'm sure you probably have seen most of them but here is one last photo for the blog to say goodbye.

Audiophilia - Yay For Squares

NOTE: This article was originally published by me on TheWebsiteofDOOM.com

Back in 2007 a much younger Aaron Fever visited Waco, Texas to hang out with some friends. Those friends were in a band and as such, for a period, my musical world revolved around Waco. This is when I was introduced to Yay For Squares. They had a four track EP which featured songs with anthemic choruses, hard rock riffs, and catchy yet emotional lyrics. If a band was built to tick all my musical boxes, it was Yay For Squares. Alas, the show I saw them play was to be their last and the band split.

Yay For Squares 2007

7 years later: Caleb Lee, Jason Himstedt, and Justin Horrell have reformed with an 8 track release called Geography. We here at DOOM Towers got sent an advanced preview of the release before anyone else and I could not have been giddier.

However, the issue is that 7 years is a long time. Very few things in this life age well but more than most, rock bands age horribly. So many become dated and soft before they realise it. It's the nature of the beast. Rock and roll was invented from teenage rebellion and nobody is a teenager forever. No matter how hard we try.

Tease Me, Baby! - BIRDMAN

NOTE: This article was originally published by me on TheWebsiteofDOOM.com

Chances are you're not aware of this movie from Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu but those that are aware are incredibly excited.

In BIRDMAN, Michael Keaton plays an actor who is famous for playing a superhero in his younger days and is struggling to be taken seriously in other roles now. It's not an autobiography, it's just excellent casting but you might be forgiven for thinking the former.

There was some confusion when the project was announced due to the striking similarity of the titular character to Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. This was just accidental and more a coincidence that they wanted to create a character similar to Batman but ended up even more similar to a different character! You'll see from the trailer, though, superficial similarities are where the connections end. This is its own beast.

Dragon Con 2014... So uhhh about that.

This is awkward.

For approximately the last 7 or 8 months I have sworn blind to the world that I was not attending Dragon Con this year. And then this happened:

I probably owe an explanation.

First of all, this was definitely not my plan all along. I was convinced that this year wasn't happening. In fact, it wasn't going to happen until about a month ago and the intervention of some dear friends.

I've been a guest of the convention about 3 times now and I love it, there is a level of satisfaction to be had from having your name on that website as a kind of official validation. But, let's be real here, I'm a z-list guest. I don't really draw anyone to the convention and while there are a few people there who are excited to see me, the number is very low. So with that in mind, my perks for being a guest are little to nothing. I pay my own way and when my money is tight, my attendance is in jeopardy. This year money is too tight to mention. I was staying at home.

I can only thank Molly, Ben, and Ken who really pulled it out of the bag to get my ass to Atlanta (which is as hot and inhospitable as Mars). It comes with a slight caveat, though, I won't be participating in nearly as many panels as previous years. Probably about half as much actually. I'll have a few extra responsibilities at the convention instead and while those things are exciting, I can't tell you about them yet. Sorry. But trust me when I say "it's worth it".

In a way, there is a special feeling about going to Dragon Con this year. It will be my 7th time attending but it's a bit of a miracle that I'll be there this time. A bit of magic about it. Can't wait to see everyone.

Damien Duff 7-A-Side Charity Tournament

You may remember that last year I took part in a charity 7-A-Side football tournament for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie and Shine. With all the generous donations we got from yourselves and elsewhere the event raised over €2000 for the charities. And on a side note; the shower of misfits I teamed with managed to win the tournament too! (Team picture of us looking knackered and dodgy below).

This year, it’s happening again but with the added bonus of Damien Duff taking part. He and his brother have entered a team to play and help raise funds for APT and for his charity of choice Heart Children Ireland who help families with children born with Congenital Heart Disorder.

Each team that plays needs to raise at least €800 to enter the tournament with all the money going to the two charities. The tournament takes place Saturday June 28th and I'll be teaming with some of the lads from YBIG.ie. There will be plenty of pictures I'm sure so I'll be back with a status report afterwards. Wish us luck!
