My Favourite "Whose Line..." Moment

As I'm going to a Greg Proops podcast recording tonight, it had me thinking about the show through which he first came into my life, Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The UK show first aired in 1988 when I was just 5 years old, so it has been around for pretty much as long as I can remember. While the UK version is no longer on the air now, it ended after ten years of brilliance, Greg and the other stars went on to do a myriad of projects including a US version of the show.

But when I thought about it I realised that my favourite moment of Whose Line... didn't actually feature Mr Proops at all. In fact, it all revolved around Mr Raptor-arms himself, Colin Mochrie.

To set this video up, I must give a little bit of back story. The game played below is know as Hoedown and is, without a doubt, the performers' most hated game. They despised it and have gone on record numerous times to confirm this fact. One man in particular who was very obvious about this fact was Colin. He stumbled over it every time and would find a number of ways to cheat his way through the game like repeating a word over and over again until his verse was finished. However, in this one, he found a particularly hilarious way to get out of this rhyming game.

Everybody's reaction to him, especially Ryan's eyes and little nudges with his foot, had me nearly peeing myself when I first watched this as a kid. In fact, I'm not sure I can 100% claim that no pee at all came out.

This moment has stayed with me for nearly 20 years now. I'll never forget it. Kudos gentlemen.

TDMTLTUT: Animaniacs

Holy shit, it's been nearly two years since I've done one of these! But I've been thinking about They Don't Make Them Like They Used To for a couple weeks now as I was recently reminded of the importance of TV show theme songs.

As you know, I was in my first play a couple weeks ago and during the dressing room discussions before each show we would get energised by singing some songs and generally acting the eejit. Naturally enough, the songs that connected with the most amount of cast were often TV show themes. I can't remember who started it (probably me) but we eventually ended up upon the brilliance of Animaniacs.

The fast-paced, manic, fourth wall breaking intro was the perfect introduction to what the show was actually like. I won't even try to describe all the amazing levels of awesomeness to Animaniacs as it will be self evident to anyone who watches a single episode.

I haven't watched an episode myself for a solid ten years at least, but somehow during this back-stage sing-a-long I found myself reciting two verses as if my body was possessed by the Warner Brothers themselves. Strangely, it was only the second and last verses that I had unconsciously memorized but nevertheless I won the hearts and minds of absolutely nobody during my rendition.

See how much you remember before playing the video. You may also surprise yourself.

Tease Me, Baby! - World War Z

NOTE: This article was originally posted by me on TheWebsiteOfDOOM.com

Ok folks, I was supposed to have this reviewed for the past week and a half. However, I was struck down with the nastiest of flu. Man-flu. My body ached, I could only barely move, I groaned, and my skin looked pale and... life... less. Oh crap. You guys. I think I became a zombie! AAAAAAH!

Well, maybe this will help me write this review of the, let's be nice and say "controversial", trailer for the universally adored book by Max Brooks. World War Z is a favourite of mine. It was stunningly written and featured ideas and scenarios that are not only highly original in the zombie genre but also incredibly haunting in their severity and realism. I know talking about realism in a zombie story seems silly but Brooks creates a world that logically reacts to an illogical problem.

World War Z the movie however seems to be very different. I'll get into the specifics after the video but the low-down is that Brad Pitt seems to be an important person and he has to get his family to safety from the crazy, running, rubbery looking bad guys who may or may not be zombies, it's hard to tell. Yeah. Just watch.

Oy... Alright. Let's do this.

The Sound Board DragonCon 2012 Special: Britpop

I love it when more Dragon*Con content pops up online. It gives me a thrill to listen back on what is mostly a blur in my head.

This is our music panel, that NeedCoffee does, centred around specifically British music. This was the second year I got to sit in on this one and as always I had a lot of fun gabbing with the yanks about what music they're digging. I share the panel with Widgett Walls, Rob Levy, and the Tuffleys (Jim and Kim). It's interesting for me as they all have a very different perspective.

Now, we recorded this with a hand held device on the panel table so it's not perfect. I'll quote Widgett here; "As always, you have various and sundry table noises that we can't avoid because we were all seated at the table. And I have no idea where the damn interference is coming from. And we apologize in advance for any questions you can't hear. Also, please note: some sort of interference occurred for a few seconds around thirty minutes in that would have made you bleed from the ears, so we had to lose that short bit."

Weekend Justice #179: The Mysterious Third Finger

It had been a long time since I've been on Weekend Justice, but I had a free night and it luckily happened to coincide with the American Election so I thought I'd hang out with some of my US buddies while the results came in. It proved to be a hoot, as always.

This week I join Widge, Jon, Rox, and Scott as we discuss:

  • Voting for Roseanne Barr
  • Rox, armed and dangerous
  • Our own version of election coverage
  • Mormons and Fleetwood Mac
  • Florida vs. the Florida Supreme Court
  • Aaron's theatrical career
  • The Walking Dead daily comic strip
  • (HUGE SPOILERS)
  • Cloud Atlas and silly controversy
  • Directing the new Star Wars
  • Hating on Joss Whedon
  • Jon attempts to explain the Electoral College, helped by alcohol

The Drive-In Of DOOM - Spider-Man 2

Yes! We carry on with our comic-book movie commentary series with the sequel to Spider-Man which was intriguingly named Spider-Man 2.

In this amazing edition we talk about Kirsten Dunst looking rough, Doc Ock's motivations, and a good looking movie with some plot problems. Admittedly these are problems that I have and JJ doesn't but a bit of tension on a podcast is the type of thing that keeps you coming back, right?

This month's drinking game is to take a shot every time I ask "do you know what I mean?". Good luck.
