It was 28 years ago today...

It's my birthday today. I'm not overjoyed but I'm trying to stay philosophical about it. I thought I would document my aging, withering face. Yup, it's not getting me down at all...

DragonCon 2011: Make the Bad Men Stop II

Look at me there, almost falling asleep next to Widge... Mondays at Dragon*Con are tough. Yet, amazingly, we got a large crowd for our farewell panel this year. The biggest one we've ever had on a Monday to my memory. Although my memory of Dragon*Con - Day 4 is always a little fuzzy.

Make the Bad Men Stop II has everything you want from a NeedCoffee panel but with more incoherency and mumbling. And more people too. We're not all mic'ed correctly, I don't think there was enough mics for us, but hopefully you can still enjoy the audio.

Audiophilia: November 2011

DOOM's musical recommendation column has just gone up for this month. It features myself and JJ Hawkins suggesting some ear-worms for you. I give you something Christmassy and JJ gives you something... else. Two somethings actually.

To have a listen and to read what we think; follow THIS LINK HERE.

DragonCon 2011: Need Coffee vs. Whoniverse

The content from Dragon*Con keeps rolling in. This time, it's the audio from the Doctor Who panel I got to do with the rest of the Need Coffee crew.

Not only did we chat about the latest series of the show (which hadn't quite finished by the time of this recording) but we also talk AT LENGTH about how terrible Torchwood is. You may hear me snoring during that part of the conversation though. It was Sunday, I was tired.

Mars Needs Podcasts #135 - Politics And The Penis

I'm on a lot of podcasts lately, what's up with that? I'll tell you what's up with that, god damn corporations, that's what's up with that. They're ruining this world. Banks too. The fuckers.

So in order to raise your spirits from all of these saddening things, I have taken it upon myself to be a light in the darkness and provide iLove through as many podcasts as possible. True story.

This past weekend I recorded with the viking of love himself, JJ Hawkins and we spoke about the Occupy movement, Frank Miller being a nut-job and a future filmy project.

Help Me Rox: The Pilot

I'm going to lift the description of this straight from NeedCoffee because it's written by an actual author and because I'm also short on time.
Another pilot episode of another podcast takes to the air, borne by mighty zeppelins piloted by an army of hobos! It's Help Me Rox, where our own artist in residence, Rox of Spazhouse, takes your calls and cries for advice and counsel...and delivers the goods. Like a steampunk oracle, she bestows wisdom, come hell or even more hell.
Joining her on this quest to save your ass is co-host Aaron Poole, veteran podcaster and an expert in Irish alternate cinema. Also, the man working as fast as he can, shoveling coal into that thing you shovel coal into--that's Jon Boutelle of The Unique Geek.
They number three--but their fu is mighty. Enjoy this pilot episode. If you want more, you know what to do: retweet this. Facebook it. Google Plus it. Whatever it. And leave comments. Hopefully nice ones. And even better: submit your question! Give the show a call at 888.665.8825 or send it via email to help me rox [at] this domain dot com. If you can't figure out how to translate that into a workng email address, then Rox can help with that too--but you'll have to use the phone number. Enjoy.

It Puts The A in Avengers

NOTE: I also posted this on TheWebsiteofDoom.com

Released today were some new banners for the up-coming Avengers movie, a movie we here in DOOM Towers are all excited to see. What I'm not excited to see though is lame T & A (which, for those of you unaware of that phrase, is boobies and bum-bum).

I've gone on rants before about bad movie posters and one of the worst offences modern movies can make is bad photoshopping. It's common already and needs to stop, we're far too used to seeing fake images online to be incapable of telling the difference. This has that with Captain America looking like a cartoon and such. But I guess I can live with that in this case because this is meant more as a teaser than a full blown advertisement.

However, the picture containing Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow has no excuses in my mind. Not only is she the only character with her back to camera (to show off her... well we can all see it) furthermore her head has been badly photoshopped so that it fits along with her butt into the picture. That's right folks, who needs a neck when you've got a booty?

It's sad, it's blatant and it's something I seriously thought the Marvel Movie production team were above. Alas, I was wrong. Apparently it's still the 1990s.

Am I making a mountain over a curved, firm molehill? You be the judge. But personally I thought we had moved beyond this sort of pandering in this day and age.

With thanks to ComicsAlliance for the heads up of the images.

The Unique Geek NaPodPoMo Edition – Day 9

Jon Boutelle's ridiculous task of trying to put out a podcast every day for the month of November trucks on with Day 9's chat with moi.

I take the opportunity to talk to Jon about sports, a topic of interest we both have but is shunned in the geeky world of Weekend Justice. And if you don't like sports, well we only talk for about 30 minutes so you don't have to put up with it for too long.

Aaron's WWEport - Why So Serious, Bro?

NOTE: I originally wrote this article for The Website of DOOM.com

I noticed Zack Ryder's web show almost purely by accident. In the same way that most people are found online, it was through a series of "related videos" clicks on youtube. I enjoyed it instantly. Not only was the wrestler not taking himself too seriously and seemed to be genuinely having fun with his flip cam but it was a genius way to try and push himself and find an audience.

The WWE creative team obviously thought very little of Ryder. He was being buried and Zack hadn't been on TV in months. But numbers talk and when one of your roster is regularly getting 150,000 hits on youtube for something he makes in his apartment... you get attention. The thing is, he wasn't getting attention from the WWE big wigs, but actually from his fellow wrestlers.

Weekend Justice #136: For Legal Reasons, This Episode Has a Different Name in Ireland

It's Weekend Justice: the Internet's #1 audio trainwreck. It's the podcast that has no budget but comes over like solid gold. This podcast was engineered--some might say over-engineered--by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. You have been warned.

  • The Irish James
  • 32 Days of Scott Being Overexcited
  • Burger Despot!
  • Drinking and...drinking
  • Widge pisses off the Skype gods!
  • Rox vs. Officer Bill!
  • The severe lack of Funky Winkerbean internationally
  • Just say no to a Jedward sandwich
  • Comics that would make good series
  • TV series that make crap comics
  • Pratchett and television
  • Frank Oz and the Muppets
  • Kevin Smith
  • Paranormal Activity ripoffs
  • Rock Lobster!
  • Rox, Aaron and Jon have a new podcast that involves acid. Or something.

The Unique Geek NaPodPoMo Edition – Day 3

Jon Boutelle of The Unique Geek is taking on the mammoth task of trying to post a podcast everyday for the month of November. That's what this NaPodPoMo is all about.

Obviously, such a mission is both folly and insane but those are also two words that draw me like a moth to a flame. So you can find me on the Day 3 podcast that was posted last night, along with Leigh from Weekend Justice.

Poole's Polls - November 2011

Halloween is over. We’ve all had a little too much candy to eat. Some of us more than others. I’m looking at you, tubby. But now it’s November. Winter has officially begun. And I think this month’s poll will match this magical season quite perfectly.

Actually, screw that. Let’s just talk about zombies.
