Photography: Fun with lights

I've always wanted to try this kind of trick photography with slow apertures. Finding myself with some free time on Saturday night I finally got a chance to gave this a try.

No photoshopping was done to either image, the effect is all in the camera. The things we can do with a torch, eh?

Some music and some business

CLICK ME!
I have been editing the pages in the top menu a little bit. Now the "Other Webites" and "Good Times" links will take you to new and updated info. I wanted to fill in a little bit of back-story to the Good Times and Other Websites had become out of date due to the fickle nature of the internet.

I also thought I would include a 15 track mix I made yesterday. It's made up entirely of Irish bands and they're all in my CD collection. Such wonders as Fight Like Apes, The Chalets, The Frames, Lisa Hannigan and lots more. So if you fancy something to listen to this weekend during your multi-tasking give it a go.

Superman Toys. Photography at play

CLICK ME AND AWAY!
Yesterday I had a little peruse around my favourite photography site, Flickr. And once again I found a group there based around something I found fascinating. Superman toys.

I don't find Superman toys fascinating but a group dedicated to taking pictures of them is.

Take a peak at my favourite ones that I found by clicking the plastic features of our friend on the left.

X-Men: First Class poster. A lesson in lame.

I had a big old rant today about how terrible the poster is for Fox's new X-Men movie. You can read that rant by clicking here. But sometimes lame just speaks for itself, so here it is...

... bloody awful, isn't it?

Video: The Newcomers

While browsing Vimeo today I came across a video made by an old college friend, Mario Bortas. Mario was always one of those guys who you knew would do well. He had his stuff together and had a clear vision of what he wanted to do. On top of that he was a lovely guy (and was built like a brick shit house to boot) so everyone liked him.

He was making a short film while in college and had asked me to do a couple of nights working on sound recording for it. Of course, I jumped at the chance to hang out on set with some college buds. This was about 5 or 6 years ago mind you so it's neat that I've finally found the finished product (we lost contact after college finished).

So have a look. I think it turned out great and we had great fun on set. A neat little horror video.

Ladies and gentlemen... The Newcomers

Tease Me, Baby! - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

CLICK ME!
I really loved the old Planet Of The Apes films. I guess I don't mention it too often. I remember that my brother had the boxset of films and I borrowed it for probably longer than I should have.

It cemented my belief that Roddy McDowell needed to be a bigger actor than he was. He played his own son for crying out loud! That's quality.

Andy Serkis takes up Roddy's mantel in this reboot/prequel/remake. I like Serkis but I don't like the premise for this film. Check out the trailer and my thoughts by clicking Serkis' Ape-Face!

Self Portrait. 27.

I uploaded this picture to my Flickr account a few days ago. Seems as I posted a picture of my 17 year old self yesterday with the Rival Schools review I thought I should bookend it with a picture of me 10 years later.

Sometimes I'm glad that I'm starting to show my age.

First Impressions: Rival Schools - Pedals

CLICK ME!
I get a little bit nostalgic during this music review as I take a trip back to my teens with Rival Schools' second album Pedals. It was released last month, just ten years after their first.

Will this live up to my memories of the band? Will Robin escape the evil clutches of the Penguin? Will I ever get that stain out of the carpet?

Find out the answers to some of these questions by clicking on my 17 years old muddy face.

First Impressions: Radiohead - The King of Limbs

OK CLICK ME!
Radiohead's The King of Limbs was finally released on general sale and of course I had to pick it up for review (and my own personal pleasure also).

In Rainbows was a big return to awesomeness by the band, not that they ever strayed too far away from greatness. Does this follow up 8 track CD compete? Well read my live review and find out!

Poole's Polls: April 2011

CLICK ME, GOOD CITIZEN!

This month's question is, I think, the trickiest one yet. I give you the decision to choose the greatest theme tune between 6 of the best.

Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, The A-Team, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Batman all fight it out to win your vote.

So what are you hanging around here for? Click Batman's anxious face and get voting!
